Honolulu City Council Approves Measures Aimed At Moving Homeless Away From Tourism Hot Spots | Fox News

The council responded, in part, by passing a measure that prohibits people using sidewalks as open-air restrooms on the island of Oahu. “There’s an expectation for Waikiki, for Hawaii. It’s a dream,” said Helene “Sam” Shenkus, marketing director of the Royal Hawaiian Center. “And because they’re families and it’s their money, they don’t have to come here.” Alan Naito, general manager of Ohana Waikiki East Hotel, said he regularly sends his employees to clean up human waste in a nearby park where he recently saw someone preparing to go near a coconut tree in broad daylight. “It’s a very important photo-op area with the Princess Kaiulani statue,” Naito said, referring to the sculpture depicting the heir to the throne of Hawaii’s monarchy when it was overthrown in 1893.

In January of this year at the Del Norte Veterans Council meeting, Supervisor Gitlin was present when I asked him about veterans signage on highways 101 and 199. He said he would speak with the Caltrans District 1 sign department and advise us. A few days went by when the coordinator for this function in Eureka said a simple request for signage from any citizen was needed before any action took place. I sent the request letter on Jan. 23 to Deb Meredith, sign coordinator, CalTrans District 1. Supervisor Gitlin clarified the matter, great tourist spots and it was correctly determined a resolution was needed by the Board of Supervisors to start the ball rolling. Allow me to be absolutely clear: there was no resolution or request to Caltrans made to have veterans signs placed at points entering Del Norte County by David Finigan.

If you have a few hours to kill, have a friend drop you off at the dog park up Laguna Canyon Road, then walk all the way to Main Beach. Go slowly and check out the local action. To use an old metaphor, it is a trip. Before my vacation started, I compiled a long list of chores around my house. I did not complete one. I kept saying I will do it tomorrow but today I am going to the beach.
